April 13, 2013 13:00 pm, "public art in beautiful countryside" sub-forum was held in the VIP building of Shanghai GuCunpPark Hotel. Professor Zhang Xiaoling, Vice President of China National Academy of Art chaired the forum.Jack Baker, dDirector of "Public Art Review" magazine, talked about his ideas thinking of "public art in beautiful countryside ".
Jack talked about several important issues in the creative process of public art. The first is to break the convention and tradition.The second is requiring different media to create public art, not only the visual arts itself. Jack said,"We need different resources to create public art. Professionals and coordinators must also play an important role in the creative process. In the mean time, we also need to build up a number of educational programs for local residents in order to help them understand this art form." In addition, Jack gave some examples of Minnesota excellent public art cases in Minnesota of USA and worldwide, including series family sculptures in Idaho town, "mosaic tile", "artistic journey", Sparrow works and Gibbs farms.
Mr. Baker concluded: "We need to create a meaningful social space, which is the core of public art. Public art is about love. We have to care about the health of in the world. I believe we need to combine the artist's talent with the real needs of community. "
