April 13, 2013 13:00 pm, "Metro Public Art" sub-forum was held at 2nd floor of Triumph Palace Hall C of Gu Cun Park Hotel. Professor Cao Yijiang, Convener of the Artistic Disciplines Consultative of the State Council, Dean of College of Arts and Humanities of China Academy of Art, hosted the forum. Xu Mingsong, Deputy Chief Editor of Shanghai Fine Arts Publishing House , and Professor Derrick Cherries, New Zealand, Head of Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland made comments.

Deputy Chief Editor Xuming Song agreed with Mr. Liu Yuedi’s definition for life aesthetics and pointed out two issues. Firstly, public art is a kind of art and in the mean time it’s not exactly traditional art. Public art is determined by the public nature. Secondly, going out of the principles of personality in the modernism will inspirit public art.

In addition, Mr. Xu Mingsong made a comment to the case study of Osaka subway talked by Hirokawa. He believed that this case gave us so many inspirations including environmental protection, solar energy, wind power, water re-use etc. In addition, the transformations of the Japanese garden landscape into the subway station reflected the widespread thinking, which is using and absorbing local cultural resources. We could also see this in the Lily’s presentation of Shanghai Metro Public Art Plan.

Professor Derrick Cherries from University of Auckland Academy of Fine Arts said: "I was inspirited by Mr. Hirokawa who introduced by Osaka subway. Actually the surrounding of entire subway station likes a small town, which requires very complex technical management capabilities. All these practical problems and functional problems have been solved in the Shanghai subway. But the question is how to make the experience more humane? In, we can see the consideration of melting art into space in the master plan of Shanghai subway, which is very important. "

About ecological aesthetics mentioned by Mr. Liu Yuedi, professor Derrick Cherries said, " public art must echo with the environment and reflect our own expression the meaning."

For Peter Kaufmann's speech, professor Derrick Cherries thought that many work has been done in the showing cases. One of them is showing the humanity of the art work including the public facilities such as sidewalks, etc.
